I will never forget my first day in London. As I walked into the tube station, I saw that famous underground sign and took a picture, screaming in my head ‘Oh my…. That is that underground sign! I think I am really in London!!!!!!!’ And then, I bought my octopus with my Mastercard like a pro from the machine, took the exact tube that I was supposed to take, which was heading to my Airbnb flat that was located near North of Clapham. I arrived at the Stockwell station safely even though a foreign guy said sorry and we exchanged that awkward smile since then until he got off of the tube because his knees were bumped into mine due to the super narrow train. (Seriously, it felt like I’m having a little cute picnic with people in front of me whenever I sat down in that tube. But it is cute. I loved the tube. “MIND THE GAP” really stuck in my head, still).
I went out of the station and I had a
deep-breathe inside-n-out, stood still for a while looking at the famous red
buses and people walking beside me and started to walk to find the flat I
rented for 5 days. I thought I could, but I couldn’t and I knew I was damn near
but I just could not find the place. So I just asked people who were right in front of me
and an old woman kindly took me there and I finally could arrive at Joao’s. He is a men’s wear designer and a gay man who’s living with his flatmate who is
gone for a moment and also a cat named Buster who loves to sleep or just hang
out on my bed. Joao kindly showed me the room and I had to learn how to lock
and unlock the door with the key(clockwise, anti-clockwise and also needed to make
sure the door was really closed and locked) which was super complicated
comparing to auto-password locks in Korea(No, almost no one uses keys anymore
here), I had to try 4-5 times until I really got it as I remember and I just
chit-chatted for a bit about me, himself, life and I learned he is from Spain
and makes his own Kimchi. He shared his spinach and smoked salmon for a dinner
with me and told me just knock on the door of his room if I need anything
because he is going to almost always be stuck in his room due to the project he
is working on. After I said “Oh, okay. Will do. Thanks” as English as I can go,
I went to sleep in my king-sized bed.
And then the next morning......ish, I guess. It was obviously raining I was happy.
Went to Borough Market. Said 'Hi' to people. Ate Pasta, exploring the market.
Also bought a croissant for the later.
And then I walked and walked and walked in the rain, without an umbrella because I knew myself I would lose it somewhere so I didn't take it with me in the first place.
And also, I was all 'Let's embrace the nature!' spirit, you know...
I crossed the bridge, the Millennium Bridge to go to Tate.
Picasso
And then ended my day with reddish London Eye and Big Ben selfie.
Oh, Also the supermarket. Because simply I love supermarket. Personally, one of the best part of travelling different countries...
